Cymatics

It’s easy to think of sound as something we only hear. But under the right conditions, it becomes something we can see. A thin layer of water, excited by a pure tone, begins to self-organise into intricate patterns. These aren’t random ripples—they’re standing waves, frozen into geometry by resonance. Every frequency has its own visual identity, and even the smallest change transforms the entire landscape into a new arrangement. The setup is surprisingly modest: a shallow dish of water resting on a subwoofer, illuminated with LED lights. Every frame is a real photograph—no CGI, no AI, no digital manipulation of the patterns. Just sound, water, light, and a camera.
